Description from the workshop holders:
For many people in marginalized positions and with economic disadvantages, eating out is often not an option. When public dining spaces are inaccessible, the dinner table at home becomes an alternative space for self care, community building and social support.
Cooking at home is a queer act of resistance. Cooking day after day in our home kitchens, we seek comfort in food, curating affordable pleasure at the periphery of segregation.
We replace gentrified restaurants and bars with collective cooking experiences.
We exchange our past stories and the tastes of our homes through each dish, connecting with one another through the deep histories of different food.
In this "Queer Cookbook" workshop — the fourth food workshop of Eating the Grass, in collaboration with LAVA Stockholm and Sinoqueer Sweden — Paul will guide participants in making recipe zines together.
Participants are invited to transform one of their beloved plant-based recipes and the stories behind it into a small zine, and then exchange recipes and stories about food, resilience, and queerness with one another.
These recipe zines will comprise a Queer Cookbook — and next time we're in the kitchen, we can recreate a dish from the queer cookbook, charged with memory and queer connection.
